Quality Policy of the MSc. Sports Tourism, Event Management, Dance'

The MSc Postgraduate Studies Program 'Sports Tourism, Event Management, Dance' adopts and applies a quality policy that is fully harmonized with the quality policy of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science and the Democritus University of Thrace. The relevant statement has been approved by the Department's Assembly and is posted on its official website.

In cooperation with the Quality Assurance Unit (QA Unit) and the relevant institutional services, the Department has developed a coherent quality framework for all its program (undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral), focusing on continuous improvement and fulfilling the strategic vision of the Democritus University of Thrace.

Inclusion Strategy & Objectives

The MSc forms part of Democritus University of Thrace's strategic plans, promoting knowledge, research and specialization in modern theoretical and applied scientific fields. The program aims to meet national and international educational, research and development needs.

The program is committed to a quality policy that:

  • supports its academic profile and subject matter;
  • implements clearly articulated strategic objectives;
  • establishes appropriate procedures for achieving these objectives;
  • It also aims to continuously improve.

Principles of the MSc's operation.

The MSc has been designed, reviewed and developed in a transparent manner, with the participation of all stakeholders.

  • Meet current scientific and teaching requirements.
  • Ensure qualifications are acquired in accordance with the European Qualifications Framework for Higher Education.
  • Promote scientific knowledge and an interdisciplinary approach in the fields of sports tourism, event management and dance.
  • Offer specialized training at theoretical and practical levels to enhance graduates' ability to produce new knowledge through independent research or collaboration with academic and research institutions in Greece and abroad.

Quality assurance of teaching and research work

The MSc in Sports Tourism, Event Management and Dance applies an integrated quality assurance system that is fully aligned with the quality policy of the department and institution. This system includes procedures and practices concerning:

Teaching work:

  • selection of lecturers and professors in accordance with the relevant legislation.
  • Evaluation of teaching work by students on a semi-annual basis.
  • Participation in internal evaluations

The research work:

  • Adoption of student-centred teaching methods utilizing modern teaching techniques.

    Monitoring students' progress throughout their studies.
  • Encouragement of participation in scientific publications and presentations at national and international conferences.
  • Ensuring accessibility to learning resources.
  • Implementation of the Academic Advisor for Studies institution.
  • Participation in the Democritus University of Thrace Outstanding Teaching Award.
  • Promoting a culture of collaboration and participation with respect to the resolution of issues based on the Grievance and Complaints Management Policy.

The quality of the research:

  • Strengthening extroversion through collaborations within and outside the institution.
  • Participation in Greek and international scientific conferences, research projects and collaborations.
  • Supporting the international mobility of teaching staff.
  • Searching for alternative sources of funding (e.g. research projects, sponsorships and donations)
  • Encouraging the production of high-quality research with international recognition
  • Linking teaching to research activity.

Complementary quality actions:

  • Monitoring the professional rehabilitation of graduates and providing regular feedback to active students.
  • Adjusting the number of admissions according to available infrastructure and staff to ensure the quality of the course.
  • Continuous improvement of the MSc at all operational levels.
  • Disseminating the quality policy through transparency and posting it on the website, while informing all stakeholders.
  • Regularly updating the website to ensure it remains a reliable source of information for students and candidates.

Planning objectives and actions:

The MSc in Sports Tourism, Event Management and Dance has developed quality targets according to the HAHE standard. These targets include:

  • strategic objectives;
  • individual quality objectives;
  • implementation actions;
  • responsible persons;
  • responsible persons.

Action planning is directly linked to the Department's and the University’s strategic planning, supporting the program's continuous improvement.

Incoming students are informed about the quality policy through the website and during welcome ceremonies.

Staff Support and Development Policy

The M.Sc. places particular emphasis on supporting and developing its human resources, including both teaching and administrative staff.

Teaching staff:

Faculty members, appointed and visiting professors:

  • They are informed about and encouraged to participate in training activities organized by the Quality Assurance Unit of D.U.Th..
  • They are trained by the relevant services (e.g. the Computer Centre) in the use of tools such as Universis, eClass, Zoom and more.
  • They have access to the Universis Toolkit (Toolkit v1.1), which contains resources for inclusive, student-centred teaching.
  • They may participate in training seminars at the Centre for Teaching & Learning Support (ctl.duth.gr).
  • They have the opportunity to watch the "Equal Access and Inclusion" training video series and materials on innovative teaching techniques (modip.duth.gr).

Administrative staff:

Members of the administrative staff are informed about training initiatives of the Quality Assurance Unit of D.U.Th., as appropriate.

  • They are informed about its training initiatives.
  • They are trained in the use of basic digital tools.
  • They are encouraged to participate in relevant training, with support provided where necessary.
