Selection criteria

The following are admitted to the MSc:

  • (Universities and T.E.I.) of the domestic territory or recognized similar Institutions of foreign countries, provided that the first cycle degree from a foreign institution has been recognized by the Interdisciplinary Organization for the Recognition of Academic Titles and Information (D.O.A.T.A.P.). In the case where no such Act has been issued, the applicable provisions of Article 304 par. 4 of the Law. 4957/2022. 

The competent Secretariat shall check whether the Institution awarding the title of foreign institution belongs to the National Register of Recognised Institutions of Foreign Countries and whether the type of this title belongs to the National Register of Types of Degree Titles of Recognised Institutions posted on the website of the Interdisciplinary Organisation for the Recognition of Academic Titles and Information (D.O.A.T.A.P.).

  • Members of the categories of EEP, as well as EDIP and ETEP (laboratories’ and teaching staff). may, upon request, be registered as supernumeraries, and only one per year and per MSc, provided that they serve in the relevant Department and the degree and the work they perform in the relevant Department is relevant to the subject of the MSc.

The selection procedure for students: Evaluation of the candidates by taking into account criteria that are graded

Prerequisites for admission to the Program: 

In order for the application to be accepted and for the evaluation process to be activated, the following requirements must be met:

  1. Bachelor's degree of Higher Education Institution (University or Technical University).
  2. Certificate of "Good" Knowledge (Level B2) of a Foreign Language: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and, as already mentioned, Greek. 

The nomination file should include the following supporting documents:

  1. Application for Candidacy on the PMS Website: https://stourdance.phyed.duth.gr/)
  2. Copy of ID or Passport
  3. Bachelor's degree of Higher Education Institution (University or Technical University).
  4. Certificate of "Good" Knowledge (Level B2) of a Foreign Language: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish. The knowledge of good speaking and writing of Greek is mandatory. 

Additionally Scored Documents: 

  1. Proof of presentation(s) at Scientific Conferences
  2. Proof of publication(s) at Scientific Journals
  3. Proof of proven professional experience
  4. Participation in funded/research programs
  5. Diploma of Higher School of Dance (only for the Dance Studies program)

The selection criteria for candidates are:

Candidates will be assessed for admission to the Program by taking into account the following criteria. The points assigned to each criterion are cumulative, but it is not necessary for a candidate to meet all of them. All criteria are measurable and give a certain number of points where applicable.

In particular, the selection criteria for candidates are:

  1. Degree level (Maximum 20 points): Candidates will be marked on the basis of a combination of their degree and a factor of 2 (two). For example, a graduate with a degree of 10 receives 20 points [Degree grade 10 x factor 2 = 20 points]

Copy of Postgraduate Studies Degree Certificate: From a Greek Higher Education Institutions or foreign equivalent institutions, indicating the exact grade, date, and year of acquisition. If the grade is expressed in a qualitative descriptor or whole number, a certificate from the respective school with the exact numerical grade must be submitted.

Those who have completed their studies but have not yet graduated must necessarily submit: a) a certificate of completion of studies, and b) a transcript of all courses with the exact degree grade and a note that only the graduation ceremony is pending.

  1. Oral or poster presentations at Scientific Conferences national or international (maximum 15 points). Each presentation will be awarded with 5 points: For each oral or poster presentation, the full abstract from the official conference proceedings and the corresponding certificate from the scientific conference must be submitted.
  2. Publications in Scientific Journals (Maximum 15 points). Each publication will be awarded 7,5 points: The entire publication, a copy of the journal page with the scientific committee and a copy of the cover page must be submitted.
  3. Proven professional experience (Maximum 15 points, 7.5 points for each year): Two years of professional experience, up to a maximum of 24 months, will be rewarded with 0,625 points per month. Two years of professional experience, 24 months maximum, with 0,625 points per month.

The supporting documents required, where appropriate, to prove the nature and duration of the experience are as follows:

(1) For employees in the public and private sectors: a certificate from the relevant insurance institution showing the duration of the insurance.

Public Sector Employees (Permanent and IDAX) Public sector employees (permanent and IDAX) can alternatively submit a certificate from their respective public sector body instead of the insurance body certificate, which must specify the type and duration of the experience.

(2) For self-employed persons: A certificate from the relevant insurance institution, indicating the duration of the insurance.

Note

  • For those with public insurance (e.g. Greek EFKA), the months of experience are calculated by dividing the total number of days of insurance by 25.
  • For those with other public or private insurance (excluding IKA) such as the Legal Fund, ETAA, if the months of experience are not clearly derived from the relevant certificates, the total days of experience are converted into months by dividing by 30, taking the integer part of the resulting number.
  • The work experience period declared by each candidate must match the period indicated in the certificate from the relevant insurance body.
  • Any period of experience stated in the candidate's Application-Declaration that is not covered by insurance contributions and vice versa will be deducted.
  1. Participation in funded/research projects (10 points): Participation in a funded research project requires a certificate from the Research Committee or the project leader.
  2. Diploma of Higher School of Dance (7,5): Diploma from a Higher School of Dance supervised by the Ministry of Culture. Valid only for candidates for the specialization STUDIES IN DANCE
  3. Second degree from another University department (25 points) or a technical department/institution (15 points)
    The maximum mark for this criterion may not exceed 25 points.
  4. Postgraduate Diploma (15)
  5. Ph.D. (25 points)

If the degree is from a foreign institution, a certified copy and translation must be submitted, accompanied by the DOATAP Act recognizing equivalence and correspondence, if already issued, as well as a certificate of equivalence of the grading scale with the domestic scale. If the DOATAP Act has not yet been issued, the provisions of Article 304, paragraph 4 of Law 4957/2022 will apply.

Please note that clear and legible copies of supporting documents submitted in the application folder are accepted if they have been issued:

a) by public sector bodies in Greece (e.g. university degrees or transcripts);
b) abroad (e.g. university degrees, transcripts or foreign language certificates), provided these documents have been certified by a lawyer.

Selection procedure

First, The Secretariat of the MSc will initially draw up a complete list of applicants.

Secondly, the Admission Selection Committee: 

  1. Rejects candidates who do not meet the requirements.
  2. It ranks the candidates in order of merit, pre-publishes the provisional shortlist, and announces the time limit for appeals.

After examining any objections, and based on the candidates' final marks, it draws up the final selection list in order of merit.3

  1. The final shortlist is confirmed by the Departmental Assembly and posted on the notice board and the department's website.

In the event of a tie, all candidates who are tied are admitted, provided that the total number of admissions does not exceed 60. If the maximum number of places on the MSc course is reached, admission will be offered to the candidate with the highest degree.
Successful candidates are invited to respond in writing within three days to confirm their acceptance of admission to the MSc and its terms and conditions. Failure to respond by the deadline set for the selected candidate is equivalent to refusal of acceptance, in which case the Secretariat of the MSc will inform the next candidate on the relevant list of successful candidates in order of evaluation.
